Sea Levels Continue to Rise, Satellite Research Shows Research in the Proceedings of the National Academies of Sciences published Monday claims sea levels will rise about two feet by the end of the century. Rising sea levels result from ice melting from glaciers and ice sheets due to the warmth of the ocean. The study took satellite data collected over the course of 25 years and tracked most of the melting to parts of Antarctica and Greenland. Robert Kopp, Rutgers climate scientist (CBS News) The report cited a climate scientist who said global sea levels were stable for thousands of years until coal, oil, and natural gases created global warming effects.
