World's First Talking Killer Whale Can Say 'Hello'

World's First Talking Killer Whale Can Say 'Hello' and 'Bye Bye' Wikie, a 14-year-old orca that lives in Marineland at Antibes, France, is the subject of an investigation which goal is to see how flexible a killer whale can be in copying sounds. Researchers presented Wikie with recordings of unfamiliar and familiar sounds, and then asked her to repeat them. Wikie could successfully imitate words like "hello," "bye bye," "one two three," and "Amy." Killer whales live in groups with unique vocal "dialects", and this research reinforce the hypothesis that they can be socially learned by imitation.
