PATENT LAW. It is there to protect businesses from having parts copied. But, can this impact a community in a Negative way? How about in a Positive way? There are two sides to every story. In this shop talk video my guest is Greg from GKA Performance Parts. He is a local manufacturer of aftermarket aluminum parts for the Arrma brand, and has a lot at stake supporting one of his favourite brands.

"IN THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE EASTERN DISTRICT OF TEXAS MARSHALL DIVISION" PUBLiC RECORD:

We have read online that there is an open lawsuit going on between Traxxas vs Hobbico. The Lawsuit is about patent infringement on the Suspension design of the ARRMA Nero, from Traxxas. Visually, to us at least, the cantilever setup has been long used - but by Traxxas, when in the RC world. To us, it looks like a close use of the Traxxas Patented Suspension (Our opinion only).

Here is what the document says: Page 12 item 51 "In the eye of an ordinary observer, giving such attention as a purchaser usually gives, the design of the vehicle-mounted coil spring and shock assembly in the Arrma Accused Products is substantially the same as the design claimed by the ’886 Patent. The resemblance is such as to deceive such an observer, inducing him to purchase one supposing it to be the other."

Hobbico has recently put in for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in the United States in hopes to restructure and save its long standing business reputation, and service to the public. Hobbico owns the Arrma brand, and many people are wondering what our opinions are. Is this in response to the lawsuit? No one but Hobbico knows. Internet Opinions are in abundance.

Becuase we know only rumours and internet gossip - we kept our ideas on a "Limited Opinion" basis only.. and then went out for a rip! Even in -23c, this ARRMA NERO can take a beating!

It doesn't get much more Western Canadian than this my friends..

What are your opinions on the matter?
