Two protesters locked themselves to a barrel positioned on an Aurizon railway line leading to the Abbot Point coal terminal in Queensland on Thursday, January 25, in a bid to halt production at the site. The group Frontline Action on Coal were calling on the Queensland government to veto a loan application submitted by Aurizon to the federal government that would allow them to build a rail line, opening up the Galilee Basin to mining. According to The Australian, Labor ministers had not responded on whether they would support the loan, while Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk had opted out of the decision-making process due to a conflict of interest.
