Mayon volcano erupts in the Philippines

Officials in the Philippines have warned people to stay clear of the volatile Mount Mayon volcano after eruptions overnight spread lava and ash for kilometres.
A plume of ash rose five kilometres into the air above the volcano, in Albay province in southeastern Luzon, and spread over neighbouring districts, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said in a statement on Tuesday.
