Watercolor portrait painting of Adaliz

This is a uncut full version of this watercolor portrait painting demonstration. I always like to paint people from live. There is always a strong energy exchange when I paint in front of my sitters. This was a watercolor class demonstration and it was closed to the end of the semester. I started with a loosed drawing to layout the composition, and marked some essential details and features, then I put the base colors for the face, before I washed into the background, hair and shoulders. I developed the painting with layering from light to dark. When working on a portrait from live in one sitting, you would have to open your sense and communicate with your feeling throughout the entire painting process. I am always excited in every Alla Prima painting, especially for a portrait. In this painting demonstration, I used only the Winsor Red, Prussian Blue and Cadamin Yellow, and the paper was 140 lb Strathmore 400watercolor paper pad, which what I recommended my students to use.\r
