Commuters in the South contended with cold temperatures and slick driving conditions on Thursday following a storm that dropped heavy snow across the region and led to the deaths of at least nine people. Schools across the region including those in New Orleans, Charlotte and Atlanta canceled classes as winter weather advisories remained in effect. in an advisory, the national weather service stated, “Motorists are urged to use extreme caution, or avoid travel if possible.
