Explosions, Gunfire Reported at Beach-side Restaurants in Mogadishu

Several large explosions and gunfire have been reported at a popular beach in the Somali capital Mogadishu, in the area of a sea food restaurant and a cafe, witnesses and officials say. There are reports of casualties. The incident began just after 7 p.m. when heavy gunfire and at least one explosion were heard coming from the Lido beach area. The attack appeared to focus on the Lido Seafood Restaurant, though there were conflicting reports as to whether the nearby Beach View Cafe and a hotel had also been attacked. Police and ambulances were seen rushing to the scene.
