Native New Yorkers Matt and Lars revel in the culinary bounty of their hometown. Munching on cannoli in Little Italy or slurping oysters in the cobblestone alleys downtown, they're living proof that thanks to the city's global commerce and culture, whatever it is that you're hungry for you can find in New York City.

But it was not always so. The city's Dutch founders ate only what they could find or farm themselves. Curious to see if it's still possible to eat as locally as those first New Yorkers, Lars and Matt set themselves the challenge to create a four-course meal for eight people using only foods that are farmed, fished, or foraged from inside the city limits.

The two quickly discover that although they can get food from all over the globe in their supermarkets, they can get no produce from the city itself – nothing that's hyperlocal. Along their journey, with the help of colorful, dedicated experts, they discover a prolific and delicious variety of food growing right under their noses.

Finally comes the day of the big dinner. Sarah and her sous-chef, Kelly Faust, cook up a feast to make any viewer’s mouth water, and Matt and Lars achieve their goal of serving the hyperlocal four-course meal to eight people: themselves and six friends they made during their quest. Sarah and Kelly even added a dessert course consisting of mulberries, hawthorn berries, walnuts, and honey - all from Manhattan.

To close the circle, Lars and Matt decide to compost the food scraps from the meal at Union Square.
