A fearless UK explorer has spent a night sleeping inside a volcano in the South Pacific Ocean state of Vanuatu.

The footage, captured on November 8, 2017, shows Chris Horsley - from Ormskirk, near Liverpool - descending to the interior of the volcano in order to camp around the crater.

Later on, he can be seen standing on the edge of the crater close to the glowing lava.

''What a magical place,'' he says.

''This is the greatest fireworks show on the planet,'' he adds, observing the spectacle of lava explosions from outside his tent.

Located in the archipelago of Vanuatu, Ambrym is one of the most active volcanoes in the world.

Chris Horsley writes: ''Sleeping inside this volcano was a truly epic experience.

''Using the radiant heat from the lava to cook our dinner worked perfectly.

''As pulses of lava flew higher than the area our tent was pitched, we watched and enjoyed one of the craziest shows on earth.''
