South Carolinians Run Across Beach for Polar Plunge

Brave South Carolinans undaunted by temperatures in the 30s ran across Folly Beach on January 1 to ring in the first day of the new year with a chilly Polar Bear Plunge.This footage shows the beachgoers racing across the shore.The event, formally known as the Bill Murray Look-a-Like Polar Bear Plunge, has been held for the past five years. Participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite Bill Murray character while taking the icy plunge, and later some participate in a costume contest, according to WCBD.A similar event was also held in New York City’s Coney Island on the same day.
