115 New Species Discovered In The Mekong Region

In 2016, scientists in a 200 million-acre area encompassing southwestern China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam known as the Greater Mekong region was discovered to be home to 115 new species of life. The World Wildlife Fund's latest report found 88 plants, 11 amphibians, 11 reptiles, three mammals and two fish, bringing the number of new species discovered in the region since 1997 to 2,524.
