A PHOTOGRAPHER who has worked with Victoria’s Secret Angels for 20 years has revealed a behind the scenes peek into the industry.
Russell James has written a book, Backstage Secrets, on his work with the Victoria’s Secret models.
He’s been backstage with some superstar models.
This includes the likes of Miranda Kerr, Kendall Jenner, Gisele Bundchen and Naomi Campbell.
James, from Australia, was hired by the famous brand 20 years ago to give its campaigns a more “fashion-forward look”.
The 55-year-old photographer revealed that the most common thing the girls say while they are backstage is: “I am so nervous.”
He told Daily Mail Online: “My most common reply is ‘Don't worry, every one of the girls here is just as nervous’.
“It's a healthy kind of anticipation. So many of those same models have said to me after that it was the single best day of their professional life.”
He continued: “I have been lucky enough to witness from backstage – up close and personal.
“However, I don’t think anybody knew it would grow to become the single biggest fashion show on earth. It really is a modern cultural phenomenon.”
James said being backstage with the world's most beautiful models is a “delicate environment”.
He said: “Some are well established and some are rising however for those few days of travel, rehearsal, photo ops and finally the big show it’s about 'the team’.
“So, the delicate part is helping those with excessive nerve find their balance in all that star power. That is something the girls themselves take care of perfectly.
"Sometimes I see it as my job to watch out for anyone who is feeling vulnerable and give them a nudge and I say, ‘get in there, you deserve to be here’.”Victoria’s Secret was founded in 1977 in San Francisco, US, by Roy Raymond.
He said he was embarrassed to purchase “ugly” lingerie for his wife at department stores.
So he set up the business to bring “fancier” lacy and racy underwear to the masses.Raymond also wanted his shops to be more comfortable environments for men to buy for their loved ones.
It was in the 1990s that Victoria’s Secret started working with top models and having regular fashion shows.
The models became known as Angels in the mid-1990s after their models took part in a tour called Angels Across America.
Victoria's Secret models also stun with sexy photoshoots.
Bella Hadid recently got sweaty in red underwear.
While Candice Swanepoel stripped to nothing but knickers in another series of snaps.
