The Vacationists was formed in early 2013 when Swedish-born, Sydney-dwelling musician, Johan the Tourist, the unstoppable Kim Griffin, and Tom Dibbayawan (the mighty baritone of Strathfield) realised they shared a freewheelin’ love of trumpets, hazy soundscapes, Beach Boys and Pixies.
Initially adopting the name Johan the Tourist and the Vacationists, the band name amused all involved for a while, being a suitably silly Motown pastiche. However, a name more reflective of the band dynamics was ultimately adopted: The Vacationists.
The EP 'Smile You're in Kensington' was released in 2014, with the single receiving daily plays on FBI Radio.
After playing together in a few different constellations, the band has as of 2015 solidified thusly:
Featuring:
Johan the Tourist,
Tom the Wayfarer,
Matt the Explorer,
Kim the Barnstormer,
Seb the Roamer,
Martin the Mooney.
They also frequently collaborate with the eminently mesmerising guitarist Eli the Vagrant.
The next EP 'A trip to the Moon' is planned to be released later in 2015 with a string of upcoming Sydney shows on the cards.
