South Florida musician Eric Ryan first started seriously playing guitar at 12 years of age, while his mother — a pianist and a mature songwriter herself — fueled his passion for telling stories with music.
A Top 20 national finalist on season one of the hit TV series 'Nashville Star' in 2003, Ryan has just one goal: to connect with his audience.
"My job as a songwriter is to tell stories, but you have to tell those stories exceedingly well. We owe our fans that. I have to find a way to reach that person out there who needs those words the most. It's never enough to just sing a song."
Ryan went to college after 'Nashville Star' and after nearly a decade of music, the desire to perform and write has vanished, says Ryan. Although he was frustrated at the time with "just plain bad" circumstances, he found himself starting to sing again.
"I felt something that was so much more powerful than it ever had been in the past. It was as if I got hit by something or someone that acted as a course correction and I thank God for it. I didn't just want to play again, I had to. I don't know how or why, but I really wanted to write again ... to perform. Things were different this time though, I knew that much at least. This time, it was more about the connection I could achieve with people rather than simply performing. I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am for that."
Since then he’s written nearly thirty songs in eight months — songs like "Country Sound," "Dad" and "To Be Loved Like That." With many more songs waiting in the wings, Eric Ryan shows no signs of slowing down.
