I grew up in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and now live in Nashville: I don't know if I could ever live anywhere but the South. I just bought my first piano, an upright named Cecilia, and I love her. I'm obsessed with the string quartet - I think the cello is the most beautiful instrument in existence, and listening to someone play it puts me in a blissful stupor. One of my absolute favorite things to do is to take an evening and cook an elaborate dinner. I light a fire in the fireplace, put some Frank Sinatra on my record player, don my yellow polka-dotted and monogrammed apron, and pour myself a glass of wine. Playing "Susie Homemaker" soothes my soul just like playing music does.

I've been dubbed the "Cupcake Queen" by my friends: I love baking cupcakes. While we were recording this album, my engineer & producer would always joke before I would walk into a session: "I wonder what today's flavor is?" I would show up at almost every session with a plate full of cupcakes. It's one of the ways I love on people. And above all, I love writing. I've found that it's the only way I can connect with the depths of myself, and be completely honest about what's really going on in my life. Somehow the truth is easier to say when it's paired with beautiful music.

I'm still learning myself, still discovering who I want to be. This record turned out to be a documentation of that process. Looking back on it now, I realize that at points, I am painfully honest in the lyrics - some of them literally came straight from the pages of my journal, the intimate diary that no one but me reads. But I wanted that; I wanted to give you that...because I'm willing to bet that you've been through some of the exact same experiences I have, and if you and I can connect through those experiences with these songs, I want nothing more. I can truly say that I love each of the songs, and that I am a proud momma over my songbabies.
