The Nose Knows Why It Runs In Cold Weather

NYU otolaryngologist Dr. Erich Voigt revealed to Business Insider the secret as to why our noses run in cold weather.
He explained that nasal membranes react to temperature changes and particulate matter in the air.
With extreme changes in temperature, from hot to cold, the blood flow changes, and with that comes changes in the flow of mucus.
So when we're in really cold temperatures, the nose is actually trying to moisturize and heat that air.
It's using blood flow and mucus to do the job.
