Honduran Opposition Calls for Election to Be Overturned, Accuses Election Tribunal Head of Fraud

Honduran opposition leader and presidential candidate, Salvador Nasralla, on December 8 officially called for results of the country’s contested November 26 election to be annulled and accused the head of the electoral watchdog of abuse of power. Both sides claimed victory in the immediate aftermath of the vote. Nasralla took the lead as early results came in, but this lead diminished over time, prompting protests, fears of electoral fraud and resulting in a recount of 4,753 ballot boxes by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE).December 8 was the last day in which an appeal could be placed. This video shows Nasralla handing in an official complaint about the TSE’s head, David Matamoros Batson, at the public prosecutor’s office. On Facebook, Nasralla wrote he was accusing Matamoros Baston of “offences of abuse of authority, violation of the duties of officials and forgery of documents.” Credit: Salvador Nasralla via Storyful
