Supreme Court Hesitant To Widen Whistleblower Protections

on Tuesday, U.S. Supreme Court justices on both sides of the political divide seemed hesitant to broaden protections for corporate insiders who blow the whistle on securities law violations or fraud by their companies. Many justices indicated they believed the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform law at the center of the quarrel does not protect those who report the violations internally instead of to the Securities and Exchange Commission. The current case will determine the range of protection against employer retaliation given to whistleblowers under the Dodd-Frank law.
