The official trailer of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ambitious project – Padmavati – starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh has garnered over 50 million views since it was unveiled on October 9.
The makers took to Twitter via @FilmPadmavati to thank fans and moviegoers for viewing the trailer and helping it cross an impressive milestone.
The trailer was released on YouTube and Facebook and the combined viewership has crossed the 50 million mark.
Most of Bhansali’s films have made headlines both for pleasant and unpleasant reasons. Padmavati is no different. The film inspired by Rani Padmini’s valour faced opposition from a few Rajput groups that felt the filmmaker would distort history and misrepresent facts in the garb of creative liberty. A group even vandalised the sets of the film on a couple of occasions and the filmmaker was physically assaulted by its members.
Since then, the makers have made several statements to clarify that there wouldn’t be any scene featuring Deepika who plays Rani Padmini and Ranveer Singh who essays Alauddin Khilji in the same frame. The two actors do not share screen space in the film despite being a part of it.
Moreover, Deepika has been paired opposite Shahid Kapoor (who portrays Maharawal Ratan Singh) in the film. Also Padmavati happens to be her first film with Shahid. Interestingly, it also marks Shahid’s first association with SLB.
Slated to release on December 1, Padmavati also stars Aditi Rao Hydari, Raza Murad, Jim Sarbh and Anupriya Goenka.
The film is scheduled for a worldwide
