CHAGOS ISLANDS, INDIAN OCEAN β A giant coconut crab on an island in the Indian Ocean was caught catching a seabird.
According to Dartmouth college biologist Mark Laidre who captured the rare footage, coconut crabs are the largest land-dwelling invertebrate. These crabs can weigh up to 8 pounds and grow to 3 feet in length.
Coconut crabs are omnivores that primarily eat fruit, but are always down for some fresh meat if they can get it.
