About the test:\r
1997. 9-million. 3.5-million. \r
These are some important numbers for the brand Toyota. In 1997 Toyota put its first mass-produced full-hybrid car on a worldwide sale. Since that time and over a lifespan of almost 20 years they have sold over 9 million hybrid cars worldwide of which 3.5 million Priuses have been sold. Vast numbers for the Japanese make. Its succes formula continues into the latest, 4th-generation of the Prius. That formula consists of a 1.8 liter petrol engine (98 hp @ 5.200 rpm / 142 Nm @ 3.600 rpm) that is linked to an electric motor (72 hp / 163 Nm) to create a combined output of 122 hp. The car can drive solely in electric mode but can also get support by the petrol engine and it regenerates kinetic energy when braking. And although it has less power than the previous version of the Prius it is just as quick (0-100 km/h: 10,6 seconds; top speed: 180 km/h). Thanks to an all-new lightweight body it performs quite well. Another important thing is its new rear suspension which is no longer a torsion beam, but a modern double-wishbone variant that should let it drive more sporty. And it sure handles that way, it is now even possible to let the rear slide out quite a bit, something unheard of in previous generations of the economical hybrid.\r
At the same time the car has a very low CO2-emission of only 70 g/km and should drive about 30 kilometers for every liter of petrol (Euro 95); excellent numbers only bested by plug-in vehicles. On top of that it has extensive safety features with Toyota Safety Sense that before were only available on far more expensive cars, its too much to go into now, but you should watch the video to see all of it (including nice animations).\r
Enjoy the testdrive!\r
