Footage has emerged of thick grey smog enveloping New Delhi's Rajpath boulevard.

The video was shot today (November 8) from inside a car.

Air pollution in New Delhi shot 10 times over the safe limit on Tuesday morning as thick smog enveloped the city.

Fine particulate matter PM 2.5, which are small enough to enter lungs, peaked at 742 micrograms per cubic meter. The World Health Organization's safe limit for these particles is 60.

The Indian Medical Association has declared a public health emergency and warned people not to go out.

Air quality dips in Delhi at this time of year due to bursting of Diwali firecrackers and crop burning in the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana.
