Flat Foot – Vancouver Hot Five 1999
This tune originally recorded by the New Orleans Bootblacks in 1926 is played here at the 1999 Vancouver Jazz Festival. As a fairly new band we were only allowed to play one set at this festival. Shortly before I had met the great Australian musician Simon Stribling. I believe Simon had just decided to stay and settle in Canada. I invited him to join our little band for the set. Shortly after we started our web of jazz internet site. http://www.webofjazz.net/
Carte blanche for Simon, he could either play his alto sax or his cornet. We had never done this together. Although the Vancouver Hot Five existed over a year, basically we only came together for rehearsals once in a while. We had always great fun trying out the early jazz standards and Simon jumped in without no hesitation. Now almost nine years ago I still consider these recordings among my peronal favourites. During this early morning walk I listened again and decided to bring some of this to share with our youtube and dailymotion friends.Next to Simon on alto sax the regular guys in the band were Lloyd Arntzen clarinet, Alan Matheson piano, Bill Dixon banjo, Steve Toren tuba and yours, Bob Erwig on cornet.
