Founded in the 1950s, the 10,000 Buddhas monastery is an off the beaten path sanctuary worth visiting. It’s not the only monastery located on this hill located in Sha Tin New Territories, but it’s our favorite. It consists of 5 Temples, 4 pavilions, and one pagoda. It’s a long and steep climb up (over 430 steps) that shouldn’t take longer the 30-45 minutes if you take your time and soak in the sights - which we recommend. Known to harbor a fleet of wild monkeys, your climb will most likely be joined by a few friendly mammals looking for some extra food. Feed them with caution, or they may turn “unfriendly”...remember they are “wild.” Once you’ve conquered the path and arrive at the top, you’ll be rewarded with a nice panoramic view over Sha Tin New Territories and some peaceful bliss. It’s a unique experience and a nice change of pace away from the city, definitely worth exploring for a day-time weekend activity with a friend or “active date.”
