If you want to become a great martial artist, youve got to become a master of the home workout. A towel workout is a great way to start.\r
\r
Here are four of my favorite towel exercises you can do at home or in a hotel.\r
\r
DISCLAIMER: I am not a personal trainer or physical therapist. Im just a martial artist sharing his experience. Proceed and price at your own risk!\r
\r
1) TOWEL SLIP BAG. Take the biggest towel you can find and fold it lengthwise. Toss it over a shower rod and get to work on your timing and hand-eye coordination.\r
\r
2) TOWEL ARM DRAG. I believe in balance in martial arts training. So, if youre going to punch, you should do some pulling, too. \r
\r
Lace a towel around both sides of a doorknob. Grab both ends and lean back. Ta da! Youve got a rowing machine.\r
\r
SAFETY NOTE: Wear sneakers or you may slide your crotch right into the door.\r
\r
For more of a martial arts workout, use one hand to grab both ends of the towel to price your arm drag or hikite. Make sure you lean back at all times to engage your back and arm muscles.\r
\r
3) TOWEL FRONT KICK. Grab the towel at both ends and place your foot in the middle. Now pull your leg up into your chest and extend your front kick.\r
\r
This works your grip, arms, back, and leg. Resist the chamber and the kick in both directions. No resting on this one!\r
\r
Hop up on your bed to make this even more difficult. That will challenge your balance, strength, and stability.\r
\r
4) TOWEL BATTLE ROPES. Ropes are hard to pack into a suitcase or keep around the house. So, grab a couple of towels instead!\r
\r
You can price Up and Down, Side to Side, Hip Toss, Circle In, Circle Out, and Figure 8. In my opinion, towels are even better than battle ropes because you can move your arms independently without getting entangled. That means you can also price weapon patterns just like holding a knife or stick.\r
