Vlookup also known as vertical lookup allows you to locate or lookup another data value in the same row but another column for a data value in the first column. If you have the names of the students in the first column (column A) and the total marks in the column 5 (column E) then with Vlookup you can find the total marks of a specific student in a large data worksheet quickly and easily.
