Extremist Christian Vandals Are Attacking Pagan Worshipers In Brazil

Vandals in Brazil recently forced Caroline Linhares, a pagan priestess, to destroy relics and threatened to kill her if she tried to rebuild.

The perpetrators claimed it was done to honor Jesus and made other Christian references during the attack. The priestess is a practitioner of Candomblé, a pagan religion with Afro-Brazilian roots.

Violence against these religions is on the rise, with seven attacks in Rio in the past few months. From 2012 to 2015, 70 percent of reported religious intolerance was against the Afro-Brazilian religions, according to the Center For The Promotion Of Religious Freedom And Human Rights.

Police say they've identified the suspects, but haven't yet released any details.
