Uganda Parliament Fights Continue For Second Day In A Row

A group of Ugandan lawmakers fought for two days over plans to change their constitution. But this wasn't the regular kind of government fighting: they punched, kicked, and even threw chairs.

The fight started over a motion to remove the presidential age limit of 75, which would allow Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to remain in power. The 73-year-old president has ruled Uganda since 1986, and would be unable to run again in 2021 if the age restriction remains in place. Though Museveni is a U.S. ally on regional security, he has been accused of corruption and voter intimidation.

While the fighting is over, the volatile debate is far from finished. It remains to be seen whether Uganda will overturn the age limit.
