Drone Killing Prototype ATHENA Laser Canon Used By The U.S. Army

This is the new version of target practice.

The U.S. Army recently lit up five “outlaw” drones to test the power and accuracy of its ATHENA laser weapons system at a testing range in New Mexico. The powerful laser beam acts like a magnifying glass, heating up the target until it fails.

Lockheed Martin partnered with the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command for the test. The laser was not just effective but stealthy; future adversaries can’t see the beam or where it’s coming from. The Department Of Defense has been testing these weapons on other targets, like live artillery rounds, missiles, warships, and aircraft.
