Cleanup efforts continue across Mexico City after last week’s deadly earthquake turned buildings into heaps of rubble.
Search and rescue operations also continued at a few sites, giving relatives hope for their missing loved ones.
Captain Juan Carlos Pena from the Emergencies Military Unit of Spain explained how the strategy had changed.
“We are shuffling other options we did not consider before because of the time pressure, so now instead of approaching from above, as you can see, there are no people above, so we are now going to try to enter from below.”
Damage was widespread in the Mexican capital. Mostly apartment blocks or office buildings collapsed in the 7.1 magnitude quake.
One by one the searches have closed down in recent days, after sniffer dogs were sent in and didn’t find life and thermal imaging devices turned up no body heat signatures.
The search and rescue operations were expected to continue for another 48 hours.
The death toll has crept up to 325.
