'I was speaking on behalf of the people!' Luvvie Russell Brand says he led UK to Corbyn
RUSSELL Brand is back in the spotlight and has boasted that the success of Brexit and Jeremy Corbyn has vindicated his controversial intervention into politics. Russell Brand, who was a main fixture of the left-wing political protest scene before the 2015 election, said he has been "vindicated" as a voice of the British people.Speaking to Sky News last night, Mr Brand said he had been proved right after he previously urged his millions of Twitter followers not to "bother" voting. The left-wing celebrity said this message struck a chord with the anti-establishment feeling in the country that eventually led to Brexit and the success of Jeremy Corbyn. In 2015, Mr Brand admitted that he had never voted himself, explaining: "We know it's not going to make any difference." He has now claimed the comments helped a  surge in political involvement among the disenfranchised which swept Donald Trump, Brexit and Jeremy Corbyn to victory. The comedian, who is currently promoting his new book Recovery: Freedom from our Addictions, now told Sky News: "I feel vindicated because people told me, 'You were mad saying there's no point in voting' but I was saying there's no point in voting unless voting demonstrates choice or is demonstrative of choice - and now it is."He added: "I feel that the changes that have happened subsequently do demonstrate that I was taking the temperature correctly."I was speaking on behalf of the people."However, Mr Brand also admitted that he still "did not really understand" what Brexit meant, earlier this week.  The 42-year-old will be speaking at a Momentum event at the Labour Party Conference in Brighton on the subject of addiction and voiced his support for Mr Corbyn. Mr Brand said the left-wing leader of the Labour Party was true Prime Ministerial material, adding he admired John McDonnell as well. He said: "I feel personally relieved after my involvement with the media and politics a couple of years ago that someone that's been in parliament for decades is now the dominant voice of the opposition."I voted for Jeremy Corbyn in the last election because I think he seems personable and he's got that simple slogan 'for the many not the few'. That says it really.". 00FastNews. Please Subscribe!
