Brexit: The EU will carry on speaking English after we have gone
A NEW form of “EuroEnglish” will arise to keep EU countries talking after Britain leaves, experts predict. Sweden-based expert Dr Marko Mondiano said: “With the British gone, no one will be there to defend the structural integrity of British English.”The French want their language to be used after Brexit. But Dr Mondiano said many EU states had invested heavily in English and could not talk to each other without it.
The statistic shows that 1,500 million people worldwide speak English, of whom only 375 million are native speakers. French is spoken only by 370 million people.According to a survey published in 2006, 13 per cent of EU citizens speak English as their first language.
