Hurricane Maria damage in pictures: Guadeloupe island left devastated by killer storm path
HURRICANE Maria has ravaged Guadeloupe leaving one person dead, two missing and widespread devastation across the Caribbean nation. Low pressure saw water levels rise by seven to 11 feet hitting low level areas hardest.Waves can still be seen smashing into the largely submerged coast line as the storm displays its destructive power.Cars, businesses and homes were submerged on Guadeloupe as the French territory took the brunt of the storm through the night.
The recovery was today underway as members of the Guadeloupe Adapted Military Service Regiment were seen taking part in the clean up.The recruits gathered debris and help as people attempt to rebuild.An image posted on social media by a local resident shows the powerful rain as the hurricane batters the south of Base Terre on the island. The deadly winds sent a pergola and other large piece of debris flying as it caused massive property damage on Guadeloupe.Puerto Rico is the next island nation in the firing line as Maria advances through the Caribbean. The storm is expected to be the worst atmospheric event to hit the island in a century when it makes landfall later today.Hurricane Maria is expected to maintain much of its power as it continues on its path with most models predicting it could hit the US mainland at North Carolina.. 00FastNews.
