Van Ling (Creative Supervisor), in T2, the Book of the Film, An Illustrated Screenplay:
Scenes of T-1000 searching John's room at the Voight house for clues were filmed but not used in the final cut, since the scenes were deemed not necessary early on. The inserts of pictures of Sarah and John in South America were never shot, for both time considerations and the fact that John gives much of this exposition in his dialogue in later scenes. The reveal of Janelle's body in the shower was implied and likewise unnecessary to show.
