\r
OPTIONAL: Use five or six round layers (large to small ) and trim it down to the shape of a skirt. A lot more work and pretty messy. \r
\r
Prepare each layer using a round cutter to cut a circle out of the center of each cake layer before assembling for the Barbie to fit into. I used a 1 and 1/2 inch cutter. (keep the extras) you may need some of it later to fill in around her waist.\r
\r
Filling used was my chocolate fudge icing recipe. If you would like to try it here is the link American style buttercream for the outside of the cakes. Claim your FREE copy of my Top Five Buttercream Recipes at this link \r
\r
Marble cake was used for the layers. Here is the link to my buttermilk chocolate cake recipe and the simple white cake recipe Bake, cool and wrap. Then freeze or get them very cold before slicing, filling and frosting. \r
\r
Start by securing the bottom (8 or 10 inch cardboard round) to a 14 or 16 inch base with a hot glue gun or equivalent. This is the base i would normally use for a wedding cake. It is strong and supportive and makes it easier to move the finished creation around without damaging her buttercream ruffled gown.\r
\r
Carefully fill in around the Barbie if necessary with the extra cake pieces.\r
\r
Make the ombre frosting. You will need at least two batches of buttercream for her. If you are making the dark to light colors than prepare your icing in three bowls. Fill your pastry bag with the lightest color first and pipe around the bottom using either a large rose flower tip or a large leaf (#15 Ateco as in the video)\r
\r
Decorate the dress with some contrasting drop flowers using a small round tip. You could use gumpaste flowers for this as well. The centers are filled with a silver dragee. I was able to lower her left arm around the ruffle. The left arm remained in a waving position :-) Thanks for watching my Barbie Doll Cake Tutorial. \r
