QUITO, ECUADOR — Photos released by Ecuador's Galapagos National Park this week show a haul of thousands of sharks found on an illegal Chinese fishing boat.
Endangered scalloped hammerheads and silky sharks have been identified among their number.
The ship was carrying 300 tons of fish, National Geographic reported. The 300-foot-long vessel was intercepted by the Ecuadorian coast guard last Sunday, about 40 miles northeast of the island of San Cristobal.
Its 20 crew members have been arrested and the authorities are now trying to document its cargo.
