Venezuela’s controversial Constituent Assembly was sworn in amid massive protests in Caracas on Friday, August 4.Reports citing opposition lawmaker Juan Andrés Mejía said police fired tear gas and rubber bullets as protesters marched to the Santa Rosa De Lima neighborhood, in Miranda district. In footage streamed live Mejia showed the scene with tear gas filling the air.The opening of the new legislative body that has the power to rewrite the constitution has sparked fierce criticism both at home and abroad, with state prosecutors vowing to block it.
