2 killed, 9 injured in gas explosion at Minneapolis school

A natural gas explosion at a school in south Minneapolis killed two people Wednesday. The blast occurred in a building as students were playing soccer and basketball at the Minnehaha Academy. The explosion is confirmed to have killed Ruth Berg, a receptionist for 17 years at the school, and John Carlson, a beloved janitor in his early 80s known for handing out ice cream bars to students. Four people remained in the hospital late on Wednesday, including one in critical condition Contractors were working on one of the campus' buildings at the time of the blast, which investigators believe was caused by a natural gas explosion, said Assistant Minneapolis Fire Chief Bryan Tyner.
