Elon Musk’s New Hyperloop Pod Races Through First Test

by Andrew CaringiElon Musk’s Hyperloop One successfully tested its XP-1 passenger pod, reaching speeds of up to 192 mph, while levitating off the track. The startup’s goal is for the XP-1 to travel closer to 750 mph, but given the test track was 500 meters long and the test ride wrapped after 300 meters, we’ll cut them some slack for now. It is still faster than any current Category 1 high-speed rails.Musk, its founder, says he’s received verbal approval from the government to build a tunnel from New York to Washington, D.C., with the goal of reducing travel time to 29 minutes between the two cities. While the pod hasn’t yet reached supersonic speeds, Musk and his team reached another major milestone.
