by Anthony FalcoThe foot traffic during rush hour at Tokyo’s Shinagawa Station was so treacherous that one Twitter user recorded a now-viral image of Japan’s overcrowded subways. Tokyo boasts a population of 38 million people and the subway system accommodates more than 8 million passengers a day. In comparison, New York City sees an average of less than 6 million passengers a day. More than 1 million passengers pass through the Shinagawa Station alone.Tokyo’s latest campaign to ease congestion involves extra trains and even incentives for commuters to avoid rush hour altogether, but this video reveals there is still room for improvement. (And not much else.)
