Watch: Former chairman of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) Udupi Ramachandra Rao (85) (UR Rao) has died. Officials said the last breath was in his residence in Bangalore. UR Rao has wife, son and daughter. UR Rao has been involved in ISRO research. He is the main character of India's first carrier Aryabhata design. He is a partner in PSLV, GSLV and INSAT. UR Rao, who served as chairman of ISRO from 1984 to 1994, was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1976 and Padma Vibhushan in 2017. He served as chairman of the Physical Research Laboratory of Bangalore, Ahmedabad, and IISD Chancellor in Thiruvananthapuram. He has received awards from various countries including NASA and Russia for his services in the field of space research. UR Rao was born on March 10, 1932 in Adoor, Karnataka.
