This Solar Car Hopes To Charge Past The Competition
by Anthony FalcoHere’s something new in the world of electric vehicles: students at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands have developed a five-seat solar car.The “Stella Vie” is the third solar-powered car created by the team, but this model has a better battery life and fewer solar panels than previous iterations. On a sunny day, the car can travel for 650 miles on a single charge and reach speeds up to 80 mph.The team is also developing a dynamic solar navigation system that displays the best route and parking spot to gain the optimal charge for the vehicle. In October, the car will compete in a nearly 2,000-mile long World Solar Challenge. For all bettors out there, you should know that the team has already won the event – twice.
