00:00Hi, my name is Layla, and today I'll be practicing Muay Thai.
00:04My name is Natalie Killface Morgan.
00:06I am a professional Muay Thai fighter.
00:08My basic lesson plan today is going to be just simple strikes, jab, cross, hook, right
00:13and left kick.
00:14And if she's lucky, I'll teach her my signature spinning back elbow.
00:18Today, I want to feel like a badass.
00:20Usually what I tell people is to start square, and then you're going to bring your, whichever
00:24hand you write with, you're going to bring that leg slightly behind you.
00:28Yeah, so that's going to be your stance.
00:30So you're going to push with your foot and move your hips and your shoulders forward.
00:35And your arm is going to extend real loosely.
00:37I'm ready to punch my way outside of my comfort zone.
00:40Good.
00:41Good.
00:42Jab, cross.
00:43Good.
00:44Okay, so now we're going to do a hook.
00:45Good.
00:46And just don't fall.
00:47Okay.
00:48When you do it, bring your hip back.
00:49I kind of was trying to hit as hard as I can, but when I work with my hips, that's when
00:54I threw a stronger punch.
00:56So now let's do jab, cross, and hook.
00:58Okay.
00:59Jab, cross, hook.
01:00Yeah.
01:01I think I definitely improved my hook today.
01:02Okay, now she's got her punches down pretty good, so we're going to move on to some kicking.
01:05So I'll just show you real quick.
01:07Start from your stance.
01:08You're going to take a step at about a 45 with your left foot.
01:11You're going to straighten.
01:12As I step, I go up on the ball of my foot, right?
01:14I'm twisting my hip.
01:16Everything's going to go in that direction.
01:18It's surprising to see how your stance and hips drive power, so step, turn, kick, and
01:25then bring it back.
01:26This lesson is about technique and balance just as much as it is about strength.
01:29I might need to ice my feet later.
01:32Okay, so pro tip, make sure you always hit with this part of your shin.
01:35Otherwise, if you kick with your foot, it hurts you worse than it hurts the other person.
01:41Better.
01:42Good.
01:43So I think that you're ready to learn the spinning back elbow.
01:49So what you're going to do is you're going to take your left foot, and you're going to
01:52put it outside, and then you're going to put this palm facing out.
01:58This facing here.
01:59You want to keep this part protected, and you're going to turn around, and you're going
02:04to do that.
02:05Yeah.
02:06Good.
02:07But you've got to step in.
02:08Okay.
02:09So why this works so well is because you use it when someone's rushing you.
02:10So do you want to beat me up?
02:11Yes, please.
02:12So sparring is where we apply everything that we've learned on the pads and the bag.
02:32Having the opportunity to spar in the ring with Natalie was so cool.
02:35It definitely made my year.
02:36It felt great to kind of like try a little bit harder and like kind of throw some punches.
02:44Definitely a workout.
02:45I was surprised how sweaty I got.
02:46Awesome.
02:47Cool.
02:48Yeah.
02:49I think now I'm going to go home and dust off my old slabs.
02:50Do you think one day I could be as badass as you are?
02:54I think that anybody can seriously do anything they put their mind to, so yeah.
