Take an exclusive look at the E3 Expo in 2006. This was the last great year for the old expo, and one of the biggest years in the history of the show. It was also one of the most crazy and controversial. This was the debut year for the Nintendo Wii. The lines at the show were insane. Attendees ignored all the other exhibitors and waited in line all day just to play the Nintendo Wii.
The lack of attention so angered the other exhibitors that the following year the show was canceled, re-branded and downsized and moved to another location. Exhibitors had their own smaller set ups in hotels and other conference locations. This was a terrible idea that was phased out in just two years.
It should also be noted that when the show was canceled in 2007, the ESA was forced to pay a multi million dollar fine to the Los Angeles Convention Center. Just two years later the Expo would return to the LACC, with a revised and slightly smaller version of the original show.
Since that time the Expo has been shrinking yearly, with big name players dropping out of the show. When the show returned in 2009 it also dropped the infamous but strangely popular Kentia Hall portion of the expo. This move disappointed many as Kenti Hall was known for housing some of the most unique and unusual exhibitors at the show. All of them too small to afford space in the main halls.
