If you're taking prescription heartburn pills, experts say you may want to be concerned. A new study published in the British Medical Journal Open suggests the pump inhibitors are associated with a 25 percent increased risk of early death. The pills, also called as PPIs, are designed to suppress excess acid in the stomach. But when taken for extended periods, the drugs can increase the likelihood of kidney disease and stroke.
