U.S. And Australia Start Their Largest Joint Military Exercise

by Jeff DonlanThe U.S. and Australia commenced the two nations’ largest-ever joint military exercise Thursday off the coast of northern Australia. 33,000 troops were deployed, on board battleships and aircraft, as well as on land.A U.S. official says the massive exercise is intended as a show of force as fears of confrontation in the south China Sea have risen.The exercise will last for a month.
