Maryland College Student, Killed in Possible Hate Crime, Honored at Graduation

During its graduation ceremony on Tuesday, May 23, Bowie State University honored a student killed last weekend. Police are investigating the death of Richard Collins III as a hate crime.The school confirmed Collins’ degree to his family, seen in the first video. A moment of silence was held for Collins during the ceremony, and a chair was set aside with his robe to remember him. The moment of silence can be seen in the second video. Collins had been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army two days before his death on Saturday.Police believe Sean Urbanski, 22, who is white, stabbed Collins, who is black, in an unprovoked attack.
