Jalen Richard ran for a career-high 230 yards and four touchdowns, and Southern Mississippi hung on to beat Texas State 56-50 Saturday night.
Richard's 64-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter gave Southern Mississippi (2-1) a 14-point lead with just over six minutes to play. His four rushing touchdowns were the most in Golden Eagles history since Austin Davis ran for four against Houston in 2010. Nick Mullens had four touchdowns on 19-of-27 passing, tossing scores of 4 and 50 yards to Casey Martin.
