The former FBI director was fired by US President Donald Trump on 9 May. The White House claims that Trump was acting on recommendations from Attorney General Jeff Sessions and deputy Rod Rosenstein, after the FBI was forced to send a letter to Congress to clarify misstatements by Comey made to a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. Comey was involved in the investigation into the Trump presidential campaign, and its relationship with Russia.
